PSAT Sophomores & Juniors Register by October 1st

Dear Parent:

It is the time of year for the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.   The PSAT, as it is commonly known, is designed for college bound juniors.  This year, we are requiring all Renaissance Gifted Academy Sophomores and Juniors to participate in this testing.  The primary purpose of the PSAT is to prepare students for the SAT in the spring.  Although juniors in Illinois typically take the ACT, the PSAT is still good preparation and it is the only way students can enter the National Merit scholarship process.

Exam Date:  Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Place:  Auburn High School- Main Gym

Time:  8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Cost:  $17.00 until October 1st (10/2-10/9, a $5.00 late registration fee will be applied)

How does a student register?

    1. Please print and complete form below.  Return to your English teacher by Friday, 10/9.

    3. Deadline to register and submit payment is Friday, October 9th.

1,500,000 students, nation-wide will take the PSAT

Of that, there will be:

  • 50,000 High Scorers will be offered the College Plans Reporting Service
  • 24,000  will be named Commended Students
  • 16,000 will be Semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition
  • 15,000 will advance to the Finalist competition
  • 1,500 will be special scholarship recipients
  • 8,200 will be Merit Scholarship winners

ShipDig.com September 15th ShipDig.com: Students must submit a 500-1000 word essay about the most important item ever received in the mail (letter, postcard, package, advertisement, etc.).  The essay must explain why this article of mail was so fascinating and how it impacted their life.  Open to all seniors planning to attend any accredited, post-secondary educational facility.

Amount of award: $1000 to $5000. Deadline for entry: September 25, 2015

Acorn Equality Fund September 25th Acorn Equality Fund: Academic Scholarships are awarded to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) persons and their children residing in Illinois who plan to attend any accredited, post-secondary educational facility.  Amount of award: $1000 to $5000.

Deadline for entry: September 25, 2015.

Odenza Marketing Group September 30th Odenza Marketing Group: Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.  Submit Like the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/odenza) and submit two small essays.

AES Engineering Services October 7th EAS Scholarship: Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?  What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?  Amount of award: $500.00.

Deadline for entry: October 7, 2015. Submit essay to: scholarships@aesengineers.com .

There is no application packet for this award. Please do not include your resume at this time.  Be sure to include your full name as well as the name of the school you are attending this year and your plans for next year.
